COVID-19: Information and Canada Star Secondary School’s Response
Updated: April 8, 2021
Dear Canada Star Secondary School Community:
On July 29, 2020, the Ministry of Education announced that schools were re-opening at Stage 2 in the Five Stages Framework for K-12 Education. Our school team immediately began planning for the safe return of our students, faculty, and staff. Our goal is to keep you informed every step of the way. We have included our updated Canada Star Secondary School Covid-19 Safety Plan and WorkSafe BC Plan for your information.
We know that British Columbia ranks among the top jurisdictions in the world for its response to the global pandemic. Under the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, the safety of BC students and staff has always been the focus.
Dr. Bonnie Henry said, during the July 29, 2020 announcement, that organizing schools into learning groups helps to minimize the transmission of COVID-19 in the event of an outbreak and allows students to return to school with low risk. Dr. Bonnie Henry says that “we’ve gone to this cohort system, because that’s how we could manage it effectively.”
We are confident that we can provide a very safe environment while supporting the health and safety of children and adults under the guidelines published by the Provincial Health Office. Students in secondary schools in the province have been placed into learning groups of 120. This has been a relatively easy process for our school as our school numbers are well below this threshold. Canada Star Secondary School operates as one single cohort.
Keeping everyone safe and providing for the health and well-being of students and staff during this pandemic is a priority. We have implemented public health infection control measures including staying home when ill, physical distancing, mask-wearing, minimal physical contact, hand hygiene, daily health declarations, and frequent cleaning and disinfection. There will be deep cleaning of the school on a daily basis. Our Canada Star Secondary School Covid-19 Safety Plan and WorkSafe BC Plan provide more detailed information.
We will continue to provide you with regular updates through email. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.
