The Board of Canada Star Secondary School (“the school,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to providing high-quality educational programs. However, the Board shall not be held liable for any losses or expenses a student may incur due to the Board’s inability to deliver an educational program, or due to any delay or interruption in the program, when such circumstances arise from causes beyond the Board’s control, either directly or indirectly.

The refund policy and refund request procedure take effect once a student has paid the tuition fee and remain in place until the student officially withdraws from the school.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing and include all relevant supporting documents as outlined in the Withdrawal Request Form. Additional documentation may be requested to properly assess the refund request. The refund policy and procedures are subject to change, and any updates will take effect once posted. The following refund policy applies to all students.

Refund Policy

  1. Non-Refundable Fees

The following fees are non-refundable, as they cover administrative and service costs:

  • Application Fee
  • Homestay Placement Fee
  • Custodianship Application Fee
  1. Visa Denial Refunds

A refund may be granted (excluding Non-Refundable Fees and a CAD $500 administration fee) only if:

  • study permit or entry visa is deniedby IRCC.
  • The denial is not caused by the student’s delay or negligence, such as failure to submit required documents or not taking reasonable steps to complete the visa application process in a timely manner (based on IRCC processing time).
  • The student submits all required documents:
    • IRCC refusal letter
    • Copy of visa/permit application or extension
  1. Tuition Refund Schedule

First-Year Students

  • Visa denial:Full tuition minus $500
  • Withdraw before program begins:⅔ tuition refund
  • Withdraw within first calendar month of the program:½ tuition refund
  • Withdraw after first calendar month of the program:No refund
  • Note:International students must pay full-year tuition to qualify for any refund

Returning Students

  • Withdraw by May 31 (Sept intake) or Oct 31 (Feb intake):50% refund
  • Withdraw after these deadlines:No refund
  • Note:Each student has one official start date—either September or February and International students must pay full-year tuition to qualify for any refund
  1. No Refunds Will Be Issued If:
  • The student is suspended, expelled, or required to withdraw due to:
    • Misconduct or Code of Conduct violations
    • Violation of laws, program, or homestay rules
  • The student is removed for false or misleading information, including:
    • Undisclosed medical or mental health conditions
    • Undisclosed educational needs
  • The student withdraws after a deferral has been granted
    • Note: Only one deferral is permitted and must be approved before the start date
  1. Additional Information
Third-Party Fees
  • Fees paid to third parties (e.g., insurance, uniforms) are refundable only if the third party permits it.
Residency or Status Change
  • If a student’s status changes from international to domestic in accordance with the British Columbia School Act before the program start date, they may be eligible for a refund of the tuition fee difference between international and domestic rates. To receive the refund, official documentation confirming the change in status must be submitted prior to the program start date.
Withdrawal Process & Record Transfers
  • Students must notify the school office to withdraw.
  • Records will be transferred to one school free of charge; additional requests may incur a fee.
  • The School will notify the Ministry of Education as required
Clarification of Policy Terms

In the event of ambiguity or uncertainty in this policy, the School will provide clarification. Such clarification will aim to reflect the intent and spirit of the policy in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
